Experiences in Popular Culture
I worked as a monitor for the Popular Culture Workshop, accompanying training activities focused on traditional Brazilian cultural expressions, especially Maracatu and Bumba Meu Boi, under the guidance of educator, musician, and master Rafael Poujo. In collaboration with the workshop students, I developed the creation of costumes, props, instruments, stage objects, and set design elements through manual and artistic practices that promoted an understanding of the knowledge, symbols, and traditions of these cultural expressions. I also participated in the group's performances as the "core" of the Bumba Meu Boi, animating the processions and shows. This work was based on the teachings of the Maranhão master Tião Carvalho, an important disseminator of Brazilian popular culture. Throughout my training, I participated in meetings, workshops, and experiences led by him, including activities at the headquarters of the Cupuaçu Group in Morro do Querosene (São Paulo). As a member of Turma do Morro, a group formed by workshop participants, I performed at events held in Ilhabela and Morro do Querosene, sharing artistic experiences with Tião Carvalho, Ana Maria Carvalho, and other musicians and masters of Brazilian popular culture.
